Day 6 – Nigella’s Cooking Show: all of the ingredients that you need for wellbeing – Power of YOU Challenge

May 11

We all know, that ingredients of what we use depend on what we’re making. The same can be said about what strength we use to respond to varying events in our lives. Today, Nigella is baking a covid survival cake topped with thrive buttercream.

Some key ingredients that are needed in the world right now are cups of kindness, some gratitude, a pinch of forgiveness, a sprinkle of creativity, a dollop of hope and a pound of perspective. Today, we will focus on hope and perspective.

What is hope? Having hope is expending the best in the future and working to achieve that. It’s believing that a good future is something that can be brought about and hope is one strength that is most associated with life satisfaction and happiness.

Your challenge for hope – grab a jar, think about some of the things are that you want to see after this period. What do you want the world to look like? What are some things that you would like to see and do in your life? Have you started some family traditions that you would like to continue? If so, write them down and pop them in your jar.

Our second strength that we are focusing on, is perspective. Perspective means having the ability to see the bigger picture. It’s being able to provide wise advise to others and it’s having the ability to integrate view points beyond your own. Perspective helps to buffer against the negative affects of stress and trauma.

Your challenge for perspective – take an around the world trip. Imagine your travelling around the world, or around Australia and speaking about this current situation with other people. Gather some information about differences in life context and different values. How does someone else’s perspective and experience measure up against yours? Find one picture online that demonstrates another person’s situation, then add a picture or an explanation of your experience. For example, how do you home school, if you’re homeless?

There’s two challenges for you today, one for hope and one for perspective. Do one, or do both and remember that together as a community we are stronger than Tupperware originals!

Feel free to share on your socials – remember to tag us! #powerofyou #wtawchallenge
