Day 16 – PERMA: Relationships – Power of YOU Challenge

This week, we will continue to work our way through the PERMA model, with our focus being on the effect that positive relationships have on our wellbeing.

Did you know that evolution has hardwired us for meaningful social connect? We all have a biological need for social support. It means that each time we joyfully connect with another person our brain is flooded with the feel good hormone oxytocin and immediately reduces anxiety and improves our concentration. Research shows us that each positive connection we have also boosts our cardiovascular, neuroendocrine and immune system. So, the more connections we make over time, the better we function. However, good relationships don’t just happen – they are made and nurtured. How have you nurtured or maintained social connections with others during the physical distancing period? Perhaps it’s been through zoom catch ups, or phone calls? Maybe it’s been a short text message to check in with a friend. Has it been through sharing pictures and challenges through social media?
