Mental Health First Aid

Mental health challenges affect every community.

Every workplace. Every sporting club. Every school. Every family.

Imagine if every organisation across the Upper Hunter had someone trained to recognise when a person may be developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis and knew how to respond with confidence until appropriate professional help is available. That is the vision behind this year’s Wellbeing Week.

Thanks to the support of our funding partners, Upper Hunter Where There’s A Will is proud to offer FREE accredited Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training to community members during Wellbeing Week.

Whether you’re a manager, teacher, coach, volunteer, parent or simply someone who wants to better support those around you, Mental Health First Aid provides practical, evidence-based skills that can make a real difference.

Our aim is to build a growing network of Mental Health First Aiders across the Upper Hunter, creating communities that are better equipped to support one another.

Blended Course Format
Participants will complete:
• Self-paced online learning prior to attending the workshop.
• A face-to-face facilitated session to consolidate learning, practise skills and complete accreditation.

Further information regarding course venues will be provided once registrations are confirmed.

Colour your community

Help us paint the Upper Hunter in the colours of WTAW.
Throughout Upper Hunter Wellbeing Week, we’re inviting workplaces, schools, sporting clubs, community organisations, businesses and community spaces to brighten their environment and show their support for wellbeing.

Decorate your workplace, classroom, shopfront, clubhouse, office or meeting place using the colours of WTAW.
However you choose to celebrate, every splash of colour helps create a visible reminder that wellbeing matters.
We’d love your creativity and for you to Share – Take a photo of your display or your team taking part and email it to:admin@uhwheretheresawill.com.au

We’ll feature as many photos as possible throughout the week on our social media channels to celebrate the incredible support being shown across the Upper Hunter.
Together, let’s fill our towns with colour, connection and conversations about wellbeing.

Together We're Making a Difference

Upper Hunter Wellbeing Week is about creating lasting change—not just celebrating wellbeing for one week each year.

By taking part, you’re helping build a community where people feel connected, supported and confident to seek help when they need it.

Together we aim to:

  • Increase the number of Mental Health First Aiders across the Upper Hunter.
  • Strengthen connections between workplaces, schools, sporting clubs and community organisations.
  • Promote a common language of wellbeing.
  • Encourage positive conversations about mental health.
  • Celebrate the people and organisations leading the way in wellbeing.

After Wellbeing Week we’ll proudly share the collective impact of our community, including the number of organisations that made a public Wellbeing Commitment, Mental Health First Aid registrations, participating schools, businesses and sporting clubs, community activities delivered and the many conversations started through our Socks that Start a Conversation campaign.

Together, we’re creating a stronger, healthier and more connected Upper Hunter.

From my earliest years, Visible Wellbeing, Where There’s a Will, and the leadership experiences I’ve been given through this charity have shaped the way I understand myself, others, and the world around me. Looking after my mental fitness hasn’t been an extra lesson or an add-on — it has been embedded into my school years so deeply that it has become part of who I am.

— Lochie Hails, WTAW Student Leader

I am one of the many young people whose life has been changed because someone invested in this program. And I am profoundly grateful.

— Meg Southcombe

The opportunities provided by Where there’s a Will have shaped the friend, family member, student, and community member I’ve become, while also the future I am striving to build, one where wellbeing isn’t an after thgouht, but a foundation.

— Alex Bates

Ultimately, I am a different person because of WTAW. Through the countless opportunities they have provided and their forever ongoing support my personal growth is thriving. From the immense knowledge I have been exposed to, the incredible people I have met and the experiences that I will cherish forever, I am eternally grateful and owe it all to WTAW.

— Sidney Murray
