34 teachers from 18 Upper Hunter schools are in the midst of completing a Professional Certificate of Education (Positive Education) through the University of Melbourne. Senior Lecturer at the new Centre for Positive Psychology – University Melbourne Graduate School of Education, Dr Peggy Kern, travels to Muswellbrook to deliver the course. Part of the study requires participating teachers to create a plan for the implementation of positive education to their own school communities.

The $6000 cost per teacher is being met by WTAW in partnership with Glencore and Coal & Allied and has meant many teachers who would have been unable to even contemplate undertaking this course are now thriving on an opportunity to learn more about how to make students feel good and function well.

They’re also finding out how to be happier and healthier in themselves, which will make students feel more connected to them which will make them perform better academically. Everyone wins!!
