Unmissable current alcohol & drug insights...

Renowned and experienced presenter, Paul Dillon from DARTA (Drug and Alcohol Research and Training Australia), will be leading Year 10 and 11 students (from the Upper Hunter) along a journey of discovery as they arm themselves with the knowledge they need to make informed decisions about alcohol and drugs. This will take place at St Joseph’s High School Aberdeen, Wednesday 15 November. This is thanks to the generosity of the Scone Bucking Bulls Association.

Why?

- Substance use (not necessarily abuse) can lead to long-term changes in brain chemistry and mental illness, depression and anxiety.

- A person with a mental illness (diagnosed or undiagnosed) is more likely to abuse drugs to help ease their symptoms unknowingly.

- 15 – 25 age group is at the highest risk for self-harm and most susceptible to experiment.

Speaking a common language with our kids…

We need to be able to speak the same language as our kids.  Why?  This breaks down barriers and gives us credibility, allowing us to relate and connect.   It’s not enough to educate our teens about drug and alcohol issues.  Where There’s a Will wants to educate parents and teachers so that we can all access current, relevant facts and so that we’re all able to speak the same language. Teachers will be encouraged to join a DARTA session specifically designed for them and we encourage parents to join this session below, specifically designed to boost parents’ knowledge and conversation openers.
