Day 22 – PERMA: Achievement – Power of YOU Challenge
June 16, 2020 @ 12:00 am
Where There’s a Will presents… Episode 2: Grit – The Hails family at The Eye of the Needle – Murrurundi! Watch the second episode now ⛰
“Nothing in the world is worth having or worth doing unless it means effort, pain, difficulty… I have never in my life envied a human being who led an easy life. I have envied a great many people who led difficult lives and led them well.”― Theodore Roosevelt
To make sure that we’re all on the same page, here is a basic definition of grit, developed by Angela Duckworth, the psychologist and researcher who coined the term: Grit is passion and perseverance for long term and meaningful goals. It is the ability to persist in something you feel passionate about and persevere when you face obstacles.
Grit is important because it is a driver of achievement and success, independent of and beyond what talent and intelligence contribute. Being naturally smart and talented are great, but to truly do well and thrive, we need the ability to persevere. Without grit, talent may be nothing more than unmet potential. It is only with effort that talent becomes a skill that leads to success (Duckworth 2016).
Your challenge for today: think about something that you are proud of doing in your life, consider how hard you hard to work to achieve this. It is the things we work hardest for that we are most proud of. Share this with a friend or at the dinner table with your family.
Come on Upper Hunter, take the challenge! #wtawchallenge #powerofyou
