Day 18 – PERMA: Relationships – Power of YOU Challenge
One way to boost yours and others wellbeing through positive relationships is by volunteering. Doing something for others in your community switches your focus away from your own worries and concerns, and helps you connect to a sense of purpose and meaning in your life. It also helps us generate empathy. One of the most effective ways to teach empathy is through leading by example – when you volunteer, you demonstrate to children and others that everyday kindness, helping others and contributing to your community is in integral part of building individuals and communities that thrive. Even fence suggests that volunteering is associated with good mental health, creating positive feelings, happy memories and brand new social connect.
Your action: keep an eye out and look carefully for meaningful opportunities within your school, workplace or community to volunteer, and make that commitment. If you’re already an active volunteer, please share your experiences and the benefit it has for you and for others.
Stay tuned for another exciting Where There’s A Will initiative coming soon that builds a sense of belonging for our more vulnerable community members.
