Day 17 – PERMA: Relationships – Power of YOU Challenge

Today, we continue with how positive relationships effect ours and others wellbeing.
One consistent finding, when it comes to improving our wellbeing is that other people matter. Research shows us that more than ‘what’ we are doing in our work, it is ‘who’ we are doing it with that ultimately determines our level of engagement and wellbeing.
Did you know it only takes a micro moment to genuinely connect with another person? This can be in the form of sharing any positive emotions between you and another person, and synchronising your biochemistry and behaviours. For example, making eye contact and initiating and reciprocating a simple smile. This process of connection is known as positivity resonance, which results in an upwards smile of warmth and trust.
The task for today is to ‘give in five’ – give us people who are happy to help others, without expecting anything in return. Dedicate just five minutes each day to undertake short, high impact contributions to other people.
Your second task is to show appreciation. Practicing appreciation and gratitude is a mega strategy to improve your own wellbeing and your relationships with other people. Take the time to genuinely thank just one person each day and be specific about how their actions have made your day better or easier. Share your stories and your photos.
